THE NATION OF GLORY: CELEBRATING 73rd REPUBLIC DAY

Back in the 16th century, India famously known as the golden bird was land of abundance and had been ruled by so many great dynasties. But eventually between 1600 - 1700, India became trading ground for British East India Company. The EIC which came with the pretext of trading soon ruled India on behalf of the British Empire. India was under the British raj for almost 200 years. The nation saw a lot of development in terms of architecture, education, railways while being under the British rule. But as two sides of a coin co-exist, there were pros and cons living under the colonial shade. When the cons overpowered the pros, then the mass agitation erupted into a revolution. That is what happened when the people of India struggled under the leadership of the British. When leaders, revolutionaries, commoners, scholars, every Indian blood came together to do away with the imperialist chain and live under a free India.

The seeds of the nation of unity were sowed by the founders of our Constitution. India breathed her air of freedom on the dawn of 15th August, 1947 and this day marked as the Independence Day of India. But an interesting fact that seldom miss the spotlight is that on 26th January 1930, a declaration of Purna Swaraj (complete self-rule) was made by the Indian National Congress where the party urged people to celebrate the day as Independence Day of India. After Independence in 1947, a drafting committee for the formation of Constitution of India was formed which was headed by B.R. Ambedkar. After diligently working for 2 years, 11 months and 18 days, the Constituent Assembly passed and adopted the Constitution of India. But because 26th January was the day of Purna Swaraj, INC wanted Republic Day to be celebrated on 26th January thus the Constitution of India came into being on 26th January, 1950.

When you think of India, so much comes to the mind- the high held peaks of the Himalayan range, lip-smacking cuisine of the North, lush green beauty of the East, modernity of the West and serenity of the South! But one thing that comes to the mind is unity of the biggest democracy in the world. The Constitution of India is the backbone of its justice system. India celebrates its Republic Day on 26th January, commemorating the formation of Constitution of India. This day fills every Indian with a feeling of patriotism for the motherland. To remember the struggles of our freedom fighters and revolutionaries that paved way for the freedom that we are privileged to experience today. India, the country with cultural diversity and a rich heritage that dates back to one of the oldest civilizations of the world has a history that will forever be a part of this great nation’s legacy.

We hope that on this 73rd Republic Day, our hearts beam with pride and our heads are held high as we sing our National Anthem saluting the past, and refreshing our minds with the idea of the nation that our forefathers had for the Independent India- a Nation of all, for all.
